How do I bathe my gerbils?

Sand baths are very popular in the rodent community. Sand baths are used to clean your hamster, mouse/mice, and gerbils. You do not wash your gerbils with water. It can strip them of their natural oils, their body then overproduces these oils to make up for it and then you have a very oily gerbil. Sand can be used to get dirt out while still keeping their oil on them. A sand bath does, of course, have to be in its own department, it cannot be sprinkled into the bedding as it will just fall to the bottom. Many people put a wooden box into the enclosure and fill it with a mix of good sands so the gerbils can bathe whenever they need to, but others like to take their gerbils out often to let them bathe on the owner's time. I personally suggest to put a wooden box into the enclosure because taking them out often (especially if you just got them) can be stressful for gerbils. Putting a simple compartment in the tank is much better than taking them out. I like to use this box https://www.amazon.com/Niteangel-Hamster-Sand-Bath-Dust/dp/B083DFBYPH because they can also chew on it. Ceramic bowls or hides are also great.
